SUŠEČ
Let’s start with the easiest one, that is suitable even for children from 6 years of age and up. It is called SUŠEC but it is also known as the “natural aquapark”. It begins with an easy 30 min hike up to the entry point and consists of various slides, jump, and belays down some waterfalls. Highest jump is of about 3 meters and if you feel uncomfortable doing it, you can ask your guide to lower you down with the rope.
FRATARICA
Our second canyon by difficulty is FRATARICA. It consists of higher elements, like the two notorious waterfalls Parabola (45m) and Katedrala (20m), but even these two can be skipped if it would make feel uneasy. The experience begins with a 45-minute hike from the village Log pod Mangartom. On the way you are already able to see the Parabola waterfall from which you can be lowered down by a rope. The canyon doesn’t offer many jumps, and those it does are up to 3 meters, but it may even happen there won’t be any jump as the canyons change with each storm and the pools, in which you usually can jump in, get filled up with sand and gravel. If you have any prior experience with canyoning or if you’re beginner and don’t have fear of heights and tight spaces, this is the canyon for you!
PREDELICA
The third on our list is the beautiful PREDELICA, which lies above the same village as Fratarica, just on the other side of the valley. The water is named after the Predil pass since it’s spring just below it. Predelica adventure starts by parking close to the arch bridge at which you decide whether to continue your way towards Italy or take the scenic route to Mangart Saddle. This is followed by a 20-minute walk to the starting point. Just a heads up, to choose Predelica, you should not be afraid of heights and tight spaces at all, and some climbing experience comes in handy, since the belays are more technical, and you really need to follow your guide’s instructions carefully. All of this is rewarded by spectacular views over Jalovec Mountain and surrounding ridges. Once you finish you have another 30-minute walk back to the car. But if you’re lucky and the top part wasn’t nearly enough adrenalin combined with traveling to the valley at right time of the low season, you can also extend the journey of Predelica canyon all the way down to the Log pod Mangartom village and it takes up a good part of your day and enriches you with an even more unforgettable experience of technically very interesting waterfalls.
